1. What is your favorite Camp Scully memory?

My favorite memory of Camp was finally finding my real home in Cabin 6 with the youngest girls. I had such a blast with those girls and enjoyed all of their energy and enthusiasm. My favorite part of each day was reading the girls (and the boys) to sleep. After long fun-packed days it was great to see that we provided such a safe and peaceful place for all of these great little bundles of joy!

2. Why do you love Camp Scully?

I love Camp Scully because it truly is a paradise for each child while they are there-wether they admit it or not. Camp provides great opportunities and unconditional love for sooo many children that at the home they may be missing out on. Not to mention I met some of my favorite people ever through Camp Scully! :)

I teach first grade in an inner city school in downton Kansas City, KS.

4. What is your dream job?

Counselor of the Week: P.W.

1. What's your favorite Camp Scully memory?
My favorite memory has to be when Colin and I performed "No No Never Never" for the first time. It was so funny and intense and we just kept trying to make the other laugh with silly accents. Also Doing the Dance routine with Bert my first summer working at Scully.

2. Why do you love Camp Scully?
Because when I was young, I didn't know what I was going to do in life. Then I worked at Scully. It showed me that working with kids is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

3. What do you do when you're not at camp?
I work at Pali mountain as an outdoor educations instructor. I basically teach outdoor science to kids any where from grades 4 to 9th grade.

4. What is your dream job?
Probably being a director of a camp someday in the distant future! Maybe by the time Colin is ready to retire I'll be ready? :-)

Counselor of the Week: Molly K

What is your favorite camp scully memory? I remember one day there was a rainstorm and our cabin built forts out of the girls' sheets and sat under there telling stories and drinking hot chocolate. Then we ran out into the rain and rolled down the grassy hills until we were all sopping wet and laughing.
Why do you love Camp Scully?
I love camp because it's so simple and raw; all the distractions from normal life are gone so that relationships become the concentration of the week and laughter is everywhere. Camp makes you realize how little you need in life and what's really important.

What do you do when you're not at Camp?

I'm a student at Notre Dame.

What is your dream job?
I would love to be a wilderness therapist, working through issues with kids on long hikes in the woods. Basically a grown up camp counselor.

Counselor of the Week: George McR

What is your favorite camp scully memory?
Where do I start? - I have so many great memories!  I think my favorite has to be when we were out in the pedallos in the lake and one of them started to sink! - much to the delight of the campers on board (who were in life jackets), but to the distress of me who was trying to work how to get back to shore- in the end we were towed back in by Bazza on the rowing boat!

Why do you love Camp Scully?
A great location,  a great environment, fantastic colleagues who became really good and long lasting friends and the satisfaction of campers having a great time.

What do you do when you're not at Camp?
Back in London, UK I work as a recruiter to help the long-term unemployed get back in to work.  Outside of that I meet up with friends, and stay in touch with fellow Counselors such as Alex, PW, Natasha, Paul and Shrek.  (I am sorry if I forgotten someone!)

What is your dream job?
Not to have one, of course!

Counselor of the Week: Sarah B

What is your favorite Camp Scully memory?

My favorite Camp Scully memory has always been doing the "bean" skit every year.

Why do you love Camp Scully?

The reason why I love Camp Scully so much is because it's a huge part of my life, and I hold it close to my heart because I have been working there for the past three summers, and I love making a diffrence for all the kids at camp.

What do you do when you're not at Camp?

When I'm not at camp I'm a full time student and work for my college in the culinary arts department. I love to cook!

What is your favorite camp scully memory?
There are so many! My favorite would be the capture the flag games, every camper gets so into it and it's great for morale and camp/cabin spirit!!

Why do you love Camp Scully?
It is the most positive place I have ever lived! The counselors love their jobs, the children have so much fun, and the location is perfect. Every child should spend a summer at Camp Scully.

What do you do when you're not at Camp?
I am in law school and work at a window company, rather mundane work compared to the excitement of interacting with children daily! I still try to laugh and be silly, making a little part of each day like camp :)

What is your dream job?
My absolute dream job is to be a writer and artist who just gets to be creative all the time. I would also definitely work at camp and be around the optimism and positivity of children as much as possible!

Counselor Of The Week: Laura C

What is your favorite Camp Scully memory?
It is very difficult to pick just one favorite memory from an entire summer full of wonderful memories! But if I had to choose, and it looks like I do, I would pick between one of the following two: Getting to teach the campers archery while wearing my Robin Hood hat! (even though most campers thought it was a Peter Pan hat!) My other favorite memory was playing paint tag (throwing a cup of paint at the opponent instead of tagging them) with the campers and counselors! I even think Colin played too!

Why do you love Camp Scully?
Because Camp Scully gives kids a the opportunity to get away from the city and enjoy nature. But most of all, it gives kids a chance to enjoy being a kid!

What do you do when you're not at Camp?

Currently I am in my last year at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY with a major in Chemical Engineering and a minor in Psychology. After my graduation in May, I will be working full time with ExxonMobil Production Company in Houston, Texas as a chemical engineer.

What is your dream job?
Working at Walt Disney World as Princess Belle hanging out with Mickey Mouse and learning all the Disney secrets! :)

What is your favorite Camp Scully memory?
Oooh memories, how I treasure thee...back in the day when I told the famous story of Johnny Walker, George McRobbie proceeded to scare the living daylights out of his 7-9 year olds when he would go up in the window, shake his head out with his tongue profusely, screaming "Bwawawawawawawa!" Although we do not do scary stories at camp anymore, I still treasure those memories.

I can't remember the year, but we had a very elderly couple , she was the cook and he was the night security guard....and the elderly gentelmen was a very militant force who would tell the kids to "get in yer sacks," or "think your comical?!" hahahahaha

and of course....my shout out to the old school....with Chris Rose being the mudsliding champion.

Why do you love Camp Scully?
If you don't know by now, I'm not gonna tell ya! But on a more serious note, there has been no place more special in my life than camp.

Counselor Of The Week: Steph P

What is your favorite camp scully memory?
Its difficult to chose just one memory as I had such an amazing summer at camp in 2006. I think one of the events which sticks in my mind is the closing ceremonies each week... especially the part outside the chapel, with Mike playing the guitar and everyone holding a candle. These were always a great way to round off the week and give everyone chance to reflect on everything they had done during the week at camp. And just a small memory was trying to tell one of the boys from cabin one that to go to the toilet he needed to take a 'buddy' but with my english accent he thought i'd said he needed to take a 'birdie' and no matter how i said it he didnt understand, I had to get someone else to translate from English to American!

Why do you love Camp Scully?
I love Camp Scully because it gave me the chance to spend a summer in America and experience the different culture. It was also clear to see everyday that the children at camp got so much out of being there and it was amazing to be part of a team enabling camp to happen. I hope that one day I will be able to come and visit.

What do you do when you're not at Camp?
I graduated from University this summer and have just started a post graduate training scheme. I'm training to be a clinical engineer, which means that over the next two years I will learn how to design and develop medical equipment to be used in hospitals and also devices for disabled persons to use at home.

What is your dream job?
My dream job would be to work in the field of assistive technology, which is the developing of devices to help disabled people maintain independence. So its adapting things in the home, such as a kettle, so someone with a limb deformity can use it. Ideally I would like to work with children and try to improve their lifes by making things easier for them, and allowing them to have a normal childhood as much as possible.

Counselor Of The Week: Shrek

What is your favorite Camp Scully memory?

After 7 years of being at Camp Scully it is really hard to select one particular memory as there are so many to pick from and involving so many different people, but one that stands out is involving a current member of staff.  My best memory is seeing Dylan R become a counselor this year, I have watched him grow from a homesick camper in his 1st year to being a great camper and a wonderful LIT and now he’s an excellent Scully counsellor.

Why do you love Camp Scully?

Camp Scully has become part of my life, I feel like I have grown up with camp, and the lessons and advice I have received since starting camp have helped mould me into the person I am today.  It has also given me some of the best experiences of my life and memories that I will always have.  I am also lucky to have been there long enough to see what impact we, as staff, have on the children we serve. I have seen campers turn into great staff members, and I have seen campers in and around camp call out my name when they see me, and reminisce about what they did at camp and what they are doing now. But the main reason as why I love camp is that it is my home away from home, and I feel like it’s my extended family. It's great that all the staff put in 110% everyday and don’t complain about being tired or ill and make camp the experience it should be for the children that we help.

What do you do when you are not at camp?

When I am not at camp I am a cover supervisor at a high school in England. I teach science and horticulture.  I also coach the schools basketball teams and lead the schools conservational/wildlife club.  I am also looking at doing my Post Graduate studies in Education.

What is your dream job?

My dream job would be a Camp Director in the North East of the USA, or involved in Outdoor Environmental Education.

Counselor Of The Week: Mara D

What is your favorite Camp Scully memory?

There were so many, but the best was the second week with a camper who was sent home for behavioral issues during week 1. Thanks to a lot of support from his counselors, Shrek and Bazza, the social worker, Meg, and me, he really turned it around. The look on his face when I handed him the "improved camper" certificate was unforgettable -- and he carried it folded in his pocket for the rest of the time he was there. My other favorite memory was the way the rest of the staff pulled together when we faced staffing issues over the course of the summer. Their friendship and hard work made it a truly awesome summer.

Why do you love Camp Scully?

My one summer there had an impact on me that continues to this day. I had never even been to summer camp as a kid so the summer camp experience alone was amazing. More importantly, I learned so much about myself and about working with children. The moments of connection with the kids and other staff members were precious indeed. Helping kids and counselors expand beyond their previous limits allowed me to do the same.

What do you do when you're not at Camp?

I am a doctoral student in the history department at SUNY Albany. I am writing my dissertation and expect to be done by May 2010.

What is your dream job?

History professor – working with young adults instead of kids. Far fewer behavioral issues. But, sadly, no campfires either.

What is your favorite Camp Scully memory?

My favourite Camp memory was probably doing campfire with Juliana as Troy and Sharpay from High School Musical. We had a blast doing it and I really think that everybody enjoyed it!

Why do you love Camp Scully?

I love Camp Scully because I feel like everybody there is part of one big family. Because it’s a smallish camp, you get to know the staff and the campers really well. By the end of each week and the end of summer you do not want to say goodbye.

What do you do when you're not at Camp?

I attend the University of Birmingham and I am in my 3rd and final year majoring in Human Biology.

What is your dream job?

My dream job would be a professional soccer player... or a year round Camp Scully counselor!

Counselor Of The Week: Bazza

What is your favorite Camp Scully memory?

Memories tend to mount up after two whole summers of fun, but I would have to say capture the flag in the summer of 2006. Although the half of the camp I was leading lost first time round, team work and persistence helped our victory second time round.  Tribal paint and crazy chant's just added to the fun.

Why do you love Camp Scully?

What's not to love? All staff that work at Scully genuinely want to be there. There's never a dull moment, and the location is unlike any other I have seen. Camp Scully is my happy place when I'm feeling down. All I have to do is close my eyes and imagine I'm back life guarding on the docks - listening to the lake, watching the sunset, and smelling the fresh breeze.

What do you do when you're not at Camp?

When not working at camp Scully over the summer, I'm working in a office in the UK, designing roofs for large buildings all over the country. In my spare time such as evenings and weekends, I train and coach children in swimming and athletics. I also compete in Triathalon's and multi-terrain races.

What is your dream job?

My dream job would be educating young people on hazards, while at the same time, carrying out duties to save lives. This profession can be found in a fire fighter role, a paramedic, a lifeguard, or possibly a teacher!

Counselor Of The Week: Erin K

What is your favorite Camp Scully memory?

My favorite memory of camp would have to be the last week of summer 2009 when we were following the treasure map and we had to get into the canoes with all the kids to escape the pirate (I think Pat was a pirate...lol)

Why do you love Camp Scully?

I love Camp Scully because we always have fun and I get to be a kid again (or at least experience what the campers experience for 6 weeks)! Also half the stuff we do at camp I would never been able to do anywhere else!

What do you do when you're not at Camp?

I graduated from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in 2009 with Sociology and Social Work.

What is your dream job?

My dream job would honestly have to be anything working with kids especially in a fun setting that helps take their minds off of their homelife or any other kind of hardship in their life.
